Situated on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River, Loyola Retreat House is located 35 miles south of Washington, D.C., in Charles County, Southern Maryland. With 235 acres of woodlands, a riverfront beach and spectacular sunsets over the Potomac, the retreat house has provided a means of experiencing God’s presence for thousands of retreatants since 1958.
Colorful gardens, the calming river view and tree-lined trails provide solitude for resting or walking. The outdoor Stations of the Cross, Rosary Walk and other shrines provide an opportunity to pray and meditate close to nature.
The two-story brick building, with central heating and air conditioning, features 70 single rooms, each with a half bath. A lounge, complete with a fireplace, creates a comfortable atmosphere for reading and quiet conversation. Two dining rooms overlooking the Potomac provide space to enjoy spectacular beauty while feasting on deliciously prepared meals.
For large groups, the center offers a spacious conference room and seven breakout rooms. The main chapel accommodates 80, and a small oratory accommodates 20. Recent renovations include the addition of an elevator, making Loyola fully accessible.
Adults of all faiths are invited to encounter God at the center. Loyola offers directed retreats, private retreats, days of recollection, weekend parish-based retreats and group retreats. During the summer, eight-day directed retreats, as well as a seven-day conference retreat, are available. On weekends, the staff schedules three-day retreats for parish groups.
