St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy Names New President

St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy in Toledo, Ohio, has named Michael Truesdell, head of a Catholic high school in California, as its new president. Truesdell will succeed Jesuit Father Joaquin O. Martinez, who has served as president for the past five years.

Truesdell is completing a nine-year term as president of Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, Calif., and will begin as St. John’s ninth president on July 1.

St. John’s leaders said Truesdell was picked because of his experience as president of an outstanding Catholic high school, his passion for Jesuit education and fostering Jesuit identity, and his successful business experience.

He holds an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis and a bachelor’s degree in modern languages from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Truesdell said he modeled some of the policies at Newman on St. Ignatius College Preparatory, the San Francisco Jesuit high school his son attended.

“I am truly honored to be a part of the finest of Catholic education represented by the Jesuits,” he said. “The Jesuits do a marvelous job allowing young people to grow, to think, to question, to find themselves.”

Outgoing president Fr. Martinez said, “I conclude my service here at St. John’s Jesuit much the same way as I started — with a great deal of hope. As it nears its 50th anniversary, this gem of a school shines brightly. We have set the stage for generations of young men who are yet to come.” [Toldeo BladeSt. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy]
