September 24, 2014 — Following the success of last year’s Moved to Greater Love online Lenten/Easter prayer and reflection experience, the provincials of the Society of Jesus in the United States are inviting all to participate in “Igniting our Values,” the prayer program for Lent/Easter 2015.
The six-week program begins on Ash Wednesday (February 18, 2015) and concludes on Easter (April 5, 2015). Those interested may sign up at jesuits.org/ignite.
Last year, 20,000 people around the world participated in Moved to Greater Love. Igniting our Values will bring us together again, as pilgrims, to follow Jesus through the Lenten desert to the healing waters of the Resurrection.
Ignatian men and women from across the Jesuit spectrum will provide daily reflections that will be available in Spanish as well as English. Contributors include Jesuit Father James Martin, chaplain to “The Colbert Report” television program; Sister Rose Paquette, Director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies and host of the online web series “The INNdustry with Sister Rose”; and Jesuit Father Thomas H. Smolich, former president of the Jesuit Conference and incoming International Director of Jesuit Refugee Service.
The reflections will prayerfully consider the Gospel readings in light of our Ignatian identity, exploring what it means to be companions of St. Ignatius — whether as Jesuits or Jesuit colleagues, partners in mission, students, alumni, family or friends — and underscoring the vital connection between a vibrant, clearly expressed Ignatian identity and vocations to the Society of Jesus.
Students, parishioners, alumni and staff from Jesuit institutions will provide daily prayers to accompany the reflections. Carefully selected music, video, art and poetry will enrich the experience. Each week will also include a special focus on the Blessed Mother.
“This is an opportunity to reflect on the important connection between a healthy, vibrant Ignatian identity and our ability to attract new vocations to the Society of Jesus,” said Jesuit Brother Michael Breault, Director of National Vocation Promotion for the Jesuit Conference.
Reflections will be posted on the Jesuits’ national website, Jesuits.org. Those interested may sign up for a daily email link with content, or add themselves to an email list to receive a printable PDF every two weeks.
