Jan. 20, 2017 — Fr. Thomas Worcester, SJ, has been appointed as the next president of Regis College in Toronto, Canada. He will be joining the college this summer.
Regis College is the theological school of the Society of Jesus in Canada, affiliated with the University of Toronto through the ecumenical Toronto School of Theology. It offers post-baccalaureate civil and ecclesial degrees within the Roman Catholic tradition. Regis College prepares men and women for ordained and lay service in pastoral ministry, teaching and scholarship. True to its Ignatian heritage, the Regis College community finds God in all things by reflecting on their experience of the Triune God in the world.
“I hope to help Regis grow in the number of international students from around the world and to develop a closer relationship with the University of Toronto, the leading university in Canada,” said Fr. Worcester of his new appointment. “Canadian and U.S. Jesuits now work together in one Assistancy, and I think I can help to foster that relationship.”
Fr. Worcester was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont, 50 miles south of the Canadian border. Growing up, he always had an interest in both French and English Canada. He has previously served as a professor at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, for the last 23 years.
