Ignatian News Network Premieres Lenten Film Series

March 24, 2014 — This Lent, the Ignatian News Network (INN) and the Jesuits of the Chicago-Detroit Province are producing a special Lenten film series on “The INNdustry with Sister Rose,” a show reviewing all things entertainment-related. Exclusively for Lent, each episode of the show presents short film and TV clips highlighting Lenten themes, accompanied by commentary from host Sr. Rose Pacatte.

A Daughter of St. Paul and director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies in Culver City, Calif., Sr. Rose is a media literacy specialist and film/TV columnist.

 “Through the Lenten Film Series with Sr. Rose, we meet the faithful where they are, online and through social media,” said Jesuit Father Eddie Siebert, executive producer for Loyola Productions. “Pope Francis himself said the Internet is a gift from God that facilitates communication, and we are proud to be offering online Lenten programming that we think Pope Francis would welcome.”

The series premiered on Ash Wednesday with Sr. Rose’s commentary on “Redemption of the Prosecutor,” a documentary about a Tennessee prosecutor “that challenges our ideas about mass incarceration in the United States and what justice and human dignity really mean.” Weeks 2 and 3 feature clips from the documentary “Champions of Faith: Baseball Edition” and the 2010 film “The Way,” starring Martin Sheen.

Questions for further reflection, as well as interviews with the filmmakers, are provided on the INN site along with each episode.

“The Lenten Film Series offers viewers a unique, media-driven way to journey through Lent using a variety of TV and film programs as meaningful spiritual guideposts,” said Sr. Rose. “The breadth and depth of the programming across genres and subject matter is inspiring.
