Six Jesuit High Schools Compete in "The Great Ignatian Challenge" Thanksgiving Food Drive

Nov. 10, 2017 — Last year, Fordham Preparatory School (the Bronx, New York); Loyola School (Manhattan); Regis High School (Manhattan); Saint Peter's Prep (Jersey City, New Jersey); and Xavier High School (Manhattan) launched "The Great Ignatian Challenge," a friendly, competitive Thanksgiving food drive to help fill local food banks and pantries with provisions for families in need. This fall, they are competing again and are being joined by a sixth Jesuit high school, Fairfield Prep (Fairfield, Connecticut).

The drive runs from Oct. 16 to Nov. 17. The overall goal of the challenge is to raise awareness of hunger in the communities while filling local food banks and pantries with tens of thousands of pounds of provisions for needy families. Last year’s participating schools collectively raised more than 101,000 cans of food, and they are expected to surpass that total this year.

An anonymous donor who was inspired by the existing Thanksgiving food drives at each school has pledged up to $250,000 for tuition assistance at the six participating schools. The donation will be divided among the schools based on the amount of food collected per student.
