John, 36, attended Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., and in 2010 received a bachelor’s in history from the University of Maryland, College Park. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was deployed twice to Kosovo and Iraq. He recently worked as Dean of Students at Commonwealth Academy in Alexandria, Virginia.
