Jesuit Father Jeff Johnson Named Next President of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory

June 24, 2015 — Jesuit Father Jeff Johnson has been named the sixth president of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston. He will succeed current president Jesuit Father Daniel Lahart in the summer of 2016.

Fr. Johnson has been serving as Strake Jesuit’s assistant principal for student affairs and teaching English for the past three years.

“After a rigorous search in Jesuit provinces across the country, we are fortunate to have found our next great leader from within our own Strake Jesuit community,” said Robert Smith ’82, chairman of the school board. “Fr. Johnson brings a deep love and passion for the school and its mission. I am very excited about the vision he shares for the school’s future.”

“Forming leaders in the tradition of St. Ignatius has been at the center of Strake Jesuit’s mission, and I’m excited and humbled to lead our school in this mission,” said Fr. Johnson.

Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, he graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in English before serving for five years as a surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy.

After entering the Jesuits in 2001, he earned a master’s degree in English from Fordham University and a license in sacred theology from Boston College.

He also co-produced and wrote the script for the documentary film “Xavier: Missionary and Saint,” which was narrated by Liam Neeson and appeared on PBS.

Fr. Johnson served one year as assistant pastor at Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church in New Orleans. He was a member of the Strake Jesuit board of directors from 2008 to 2012 and is currently a member of the board of directors of Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston. He came to Strake after teaching English for three years at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida.
