Died 4 March 2018

Jesuit Father Donald R. Cadden died on March 4, 2018, at the Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos, California. He was 93 and had been a priest for 59 years and a Jesuit for 71 years.

Born in Darrington, Washington, on June 19, 1924 to Harry Cadden and Mary Roderick, young Fr. Cadden attended school in White Horse, Yukon Territories, Canada, and Monroe Junior and Senior High School in Monroe, Washington. In 1948, he joined the Society of Jesus. After the normal course of studies in spirituality, philosophy, practical ministry, and theology, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 14, 1958.

During his many years of ministry, Fr. Cadden served as a parish priest, a high school teacher (Gonzaga Prep, Spokane) and a chaplain at Fort Wright College and Sacred Heart Medical Center, both in Spokane. Most of his years of ministry were spent in the Spokane area. He ended his years in retirement as sculptor in residence at Gonzaga University. His great passion in life was working with metal as a sculptor. His greatest passion, which he covered with a gruff exterior, involved his ministry to people. He made many friends over the years working in schools, hospitals, and parishes.

He is survived by his two nephews, Pat Cadden and Mike Cadden.
