Jesuit Father Emmett H. Carroll died on July 24, 2013, at age 81. Fr. Carroll was born on Nov. 28, 1931, at Cabrini Hospital in Seattle. He attended St. Edward’s Grade School and Seattle Prep and then entered the Society of Jesus in 1949. He was ordained to the priesthood in Rome in 1962.
Fr. Carroll was the classic “gentleman and a scholar.” He loved learning and was a kind, compassionate priest. Most of his Jesuit years were spent teaching English literature and creative writing at Seattle University.
At age 74 he became full-time pastor of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Bainbridge Island, Wash., where he has served for the last eight years of his life. Under his leadership the parish was revived and a new grade school facility and parish offices were built.
