Jesuit Father Raymond T. Gawronski died on April 14, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on Sept. 9, 1950, Fr. Gawronski entered the Society of Jesus at the Novitiate of St. Isaac Jogues in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, in August of 1977. He received degrees in philosophy and Asian studies from the College of the Holy Cross and Gonzaga University respectively, his Licentiate of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome and his Doctorate of Sacred Theology from Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1986.

After serving St. Aloysius Church in Washington, D.C. as parochial vicar, Fr. Gawronski went on to teach theology at Marquette University in Milwaukee, St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver, and St. Patrick’s University and Seminary in Menlo Park, California. Fr. Gawronski was also a regular on the Catholic Television Network, EWTN and the author of several books. His 1995 book, "Word and Silence," on the Swiss Jesuit Hans von Balthasar, is now in its third edition.
