Fr. David C. Paternostro, S.J., grew up in League City, Texas, where his family was very involved at St. Mary Catholic Church. He graduated from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston and attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, for one year before entering the Jesuit novitiate in 2005 at Grand Coteau, Louisiana. David had heard about the Society his whole life from his father, an alumnus of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, and began discerning a Jesuit vocation during his junior year at Strake. As a novice, he worked at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Belize City, Belize, where he taught remedial reading to second and third graders. In 2007, David enrolled at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, earning both a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in philosophical research. During his years in New York, he also helped with the theater program at Cristo Rey High School. From 2011 to 2014, he taught and served as an assistant theater director at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida. Next missioned to the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in Berkeley, California, David completed a Master of Divinity degree and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology and set up the theater program at Immaculate Conception Academy in San Francisco. Ordained a deacon in October 2016, he served at Saint Mary Magdalen Parish in Berkeley. During his Jesuit formation, David studied Spanish in Managua, Nicaragua; learned French in Paris; and traveled with Tampa Jesuit High students to World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro. His first Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier (College) Church in St. Louis, with additional Masses at St. Mary Catholic Church in League City and at Jesuit High School in Tampa. After ordination, David will be assigned to Immaculate Conception Parish in New Orleans. (USA Central and Southern Province)
